During the apparition of November 27, 1830, Our Lady instructed Catherine to have a medal struck according to the design she was shown. Around the image appeared the now-famous invocation:

1. The Miraculous Medal Invocation

The most important prayer associated with the Miraculous Medal is the inscription found on the medal itself:

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

3. Prayer to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

Immaculate Virgin of the Miraculous Medal, you who decided to appear in front of Saint Catherine Labouré, today I ask you to manifest yourself in my life to attend to this prayer that I dedicate to you today, and that so much needs your help.

As you once said, fill with blessings those who pray to you with their hearts, so today I turn to you to let you know everything that overwhelms or worries me. In your hands I place this, my most special request: (at this point make your request clearly).

I raise these words confessing my most faithful devotion to the Miraculous Medal and, especially, to you who are a being of light that radiates trust and mercy, so that you have mercy on me at this time and can grant me the grace that I have come to ask of you today. O Lord Jesus Christ, who has vouchsafed to glorify by numberless miracles the Blessed Virgin Mary, Immaculate from the first moment of her conception, grant that all who devoutly implore her protection on earth may eternally enjoy your presence in heaven who, with the Father and the Holy Spirit live and reign, God forever and ever. 5. Prayer for Humility Through the Miraculous Medal

O Lord Jesus Christ, who for the accomplishment of Your greatest works, has chosen the weak things of the world that no flesh may glorify in Your sight; and who for a better and more widely diffused belief in the Immaculate Conception of Your Mother, has wished that the Miraculous Medal be manifested to Saint Catherine Laboure’ grant we beseech You that filled with like humility, we may glorify this mystery by word and work.  Amen.

6. The Memorare

Though not originally given at the apparition Catherine Laboure’, the Memorare is one of the Church’s most beloved Marian prayers and is often said daily by those who wear the Miraculous Medal:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins; my mother, to you I come, before you I kneel sinful and sorrowful, O mother of the Word incarnate, despite not my prayers but in your mercy hear and answer me.  Amen

O Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of Our Lord Jesus and our Mother, penetrated with the most lively confidence in your all – powerful and never – failing intercession, manifested so often through the Miraculous Medal, we your loving and trustful children implore you to obtain for us the graces and favors we ask during this Novena, if they be beneficial to our immortal souls, and the souls for whom we pray (here add your petitions).  You know, O Mary, how often our souls have been the sanctuaries of your Son who hates iniquity.  Obtain for us, then, a deep hatred of sin and that purity of heart, which will attach us to God alone so that our every thought, word and deed may tend to his greater glory.  Obtain for us also the merit of prayer and self – denial that we may recover by penance what we have lost by sin, and at last attain to that blessed abode where you are the Queen of Angels and of men.  Amen
